2:30 p.m. Found a local bar for coffee and tapas. 
4:00 p.m. Checked in to our lodging.
It's nice to be back in Spain. 

Random Thought of the Day

Bilbao is a very hilly city. Seems like to go anywhere, you have to go up and down. Deb thought it compared to San Francisco.

Meaningful Moment / Notable Memories

Already having little conversations in Spanish with folks.
Chatted with the cab driver.
We asked a lady on the street for help finding a bar.
Stopped at a bar for Cafe con leche and tapas.
Told the bartender about Carlos and his red car and red jersey and red Spanish flag, celebrating Spain's win over England. 

It's about 5:00 p.m. And Deb and I have showered and are now resting. Feels so good to get the travel ick off the body, and put on a clean pair of clothes, and lay down on the bed. 

Took a walk around the neighborhood, since we are very near the Guggenheim museum, we crossed the river and checked it out. Did not go inside. 

Then walked around. 
Bilbao is a very beautiful city. Saw lots of amazing architecture and walked through a couple of city parks.

Guggenheim Museum







In the James Bond film, "The World Is Not Enough",  the opening action scene has Bond hanging from the fifth floor of number 63, Calle Alameda Mazarredo. To escape he fashions a rope from nearby material and jumps off the balcony before landing on the pavement and walking with his briefcase over the La Salve bridge, with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao as the backdrop.

A.m.  Found a coffee shop while near the Guggenheim.  Then took off again crossing over to the east side of the Ria Bilbao.  Lots of shade as we were walking, which was good as in the sun it was hot. We were using Gronze and the Buen Camino guides.  Both indicated that the much more scenic route was to the South, but it was also about 3 mi longer.  Both also indicated that the two alternate routes for a much more urbanized.  Our route turned out to be

Two Weeks To Go

Visited the physical therapist (Alex) yesterday, and she again strongly suggested that I give up pickleball with the Camino departure date so close. This time I listened, espeially because she gave me something else that I could do in the interim that would both help the hamstring slowly continue to heal, as well as replace the activity level of pickleball. So I am very measuredly adding jogging back to the routine.  It is more walking than jogging, but if it helps me heal, then that is a good thing. Training My Baltour backpack feels good. Packed everything well last night, so that when the alarm went off, I was able to jump out of bed, grab my backpack and head out to the community area without disturbing anyone else.  Waiting on the taxi in Portugalete to return us to Ontón and then we start walking. 9:10 a.m. Just finished a 1.25 mile 10% upgrade climb in just over an hour. Did not really plan on starting the morning by really working up a sweat.  10:20 a.m.
