On The Road

Started a little bit later this morning. We have a 3:00 check-in at Rio Seco. So we figured we could leave Castro Urdiales around 10:00 and still take our time getting to our next place. Today's walk is about 9 mi.
So we stopped at a coffee shop on the beach before taking off.

Completed our northward leg and reached the ocean. It was a beautiful walk through a lot of pastoral countryside. Now turning west along the ocean.

Random Thought of the Day

We are on a road that runs parallel to the coast. To our left is the Cantabrian mountains.

I'll have to check a terrain map later, but I'm glad we are not crossing over the mountains. It just seems to me these are thousand-foot peaks, at least.

Later in the day, I put Google maps in terrain mode and got some actual heights. Some of the mountain tops were over 1,500 ft.

We saved a lot of energy by not climbing the mountains.

Meaningful Moment / Notable Memories

When we arrived at Posada Valle, the lady behind the bar to check us in was kept putting us on hold while she took care of her local customer base
But Mary handled it gracefully, by simply and very politely saying that she did not speak Spanish but asking if we were waiting on someone from the hotel side to arrive.
That's did the trick.
The bartender, Mar was her name, was super.
There was nothing open, being Sunday, but she offered to make us tortillas for supper and was very gracious.
I came to enjoy my time there.
