On The Road
6:45 a.m. Wake up by Elena for breakfast
7:45 a.m. On the road to Cadavedo
9:30 a.m. Probably for about half an hour now, we have been on a much more challenging trail. Lots of loose rocks 4 to 6 inches in size but more challenging is the clay underneath the rocks which makes things slippery.
It's a real blessing that it is not raining today or it would be one continuous slipside both down and up this rather steep climb over a mountain.
9:45 a.m. Energy refill with 3 3/4 Mi done.
11:45 a.m. Protein and coffee refill and juice in Santa Marina.
12:15 p.m. Back on the road. Halfway through the day. Have some really incredible steep descents coming up.
2:00 p.m. Quick energy, rest stop and foot maintenance.
3 Mi to go.
Random Thought of the Day
Despite having been in the mountains for quite a number of days now, as I walked out of our just absolutely wonderful albergue, and took a look to the distance, I realized just how far in the mountains we are, where you can't look 100 ft or 200 ft and there's a very steep rising peak.
Just had an interesting realization about the process of communication.
Based on an experience yesterday, it became crystal clear to me how two different people can hear the same words and have extremely different interpretations.
For example, person A hears: You need to hurry up because there's people coming.
Person B hears irritation or annoyance that they themselves are coming.
Same words, two very different meanings.
Makes me realize that is why politicians, for example, often speak so blandly and without affectation.
They're always conscious that their words will not mean the same thing to everybody and they seek at almost any cost to avoid misinterpretation.
Meaningful Moment / Notable Memories
Lots of nice conversations with Deb as we crossed ridge after ridge, with coffee breaks in between.
Then ending the day with a great salad and Merluza deep fried fish dinner.
Soto de Luiña sunrise
Between Albueme and Novellana; one of about five mountain valleys we hiked into and out of
If it wasn't rocks, clay and running water, it was vegetation-overgrown narrow paths
Between Novellana and Ballota; paralleling the roads, but this is more fun
Coming to Ribón; another ridge crossed
Mirador de Ribeirona; Playa de Tablizo
Casa Ina; end of a hard day
