Iglesia San Nicolas de Bari

Avilés City Hall

Long day of walking, wine, Sidra ( The local alcohol cider ) and ending with a fantastic meal.

Bottle of Asturian Sidra ( cider ). You can only buy it by the bottle. I did the heavy lifting but Deb helped drink the bottle.

Best salad I've had on this camino yet.

Salad was a mix of mushrooms, Asturian cheese, shrimp and greens, served warm.

Wished I had taken a picture of our main course.
Grilled Chicken slices served over thick cornbread with vegetables and cheese.

Tuesday morning

Oscar Niemeyer International Culture Center

Set of four buildings and a large plaza built by Oscar Niemeyer, a Brazilian architect as a gift to the city.

On the bridge that takes you over the railroad and the river to get to the island on which the center is built.

In one of the buildings was a Goya exhibition. This painting is from an artist who was influenced by the style of Goya.

Tuesday evening

Ended our last day in Avilés by heading down to the Plaza de Espana and doing some salad hopping.
We grabbed a salad and boiled shrimp at one place.
Then Deb and I walked around a bit.
Wanting a little more salad, we went back to Tierra Astur for another one of their unbelievable salads.

This salad was cheese filled, along with black olives and pimientos and anchoas.
And of course a couple glasses of wine.

Completely skipped the Sidra cider tonight since we have to walk tomorrow morning.

Then we closed out the night with a visit to a candy shop and an ice cream store.

Now back at the hotel. We have finished packing what we could and are calling it a night so that we can return to the Camino tomorrow.
