On The Road

7:00 a.m. Wake up to the two alarms. We both turned them off and changed it to 7:30 a.m.

7:30 a.m. Up and washing and then downstairs for breakfast. 

8:45 a.m. On the road. 

10:15 a.m. Bypassing Salinas where we originally planned an energy stop. Following the more pastoral shortcut instead.

11:00 a.m. Coffee and orange juice break in Piedras Blancas.

11:30 a.m. Back on the road.

12:45 p.m. Just been a long, beautiful stretch of green with pastures on both sides and eucalyptus forests. 
Soon I suspect we will be leaving this beautiful trail to catch the highway system to the Casa Rural

1:10 p.m. Santiago del Mar. Continuing in the Camino to La Carcavina.

2:00 p.m. Leaving the Camino to head to La Carcavina to stock up on food for tonight since there's nothing in the area of the Casa Rural, where we're sleeping tonight. 

2:30 p.m. We are in La Carcavina. The 24-hour restaurant is closed, LOL. 

But we did find another place, Restaurante El Rancho. But it must be the only game in town. 
It is packed, packed, packed. 
And the people keep pouring in the door. 

5:00 p m. Arrive Casa Rural La Sombradales


Random Thought of the Day

After today there are only five more hiking days.

Meaningful Moment / Notable Memories

It was a beautiful day on the Camino. 
Not sure that something stands out. 
But it was a day of one, nice little surprise after another.

A.m.  Found a coffee shop while near the Guggenheim.  Then took off again crossing over to the east side of the Ria Bilbao.  Lots of shade as we were walking, which was good as in the sun it was hot. Two Weeks To Go

Visited the physical therapist (Alex) yesterday, and she again strongly suggested that I give up pickleball with the Camino departure date so close. This time I listened, espeially because she gave me something else that I could do in the interim that would both help the hamstring slowly continue to heal, as well as replace the activity level of pickleball. So I am very measuredly adding jogging back to the routine.  It is more walking than jogging, but if it helps me heal, then that is a good thing. Training My Baltour backpack feels good. Packed everything well last night, so that when the alarm went off, I was able to jump out of bed, grab my backpack and head out to the community area without disturbing anyone else.  Waiting on the taxi in Portugalete to return us to Ontón and then we start walking. 9:10 a.m. Just finished a 1.25 mile 10% upgrade climb in just over an hour. Did not really plan on starting the morning by really working up a sweat.  10:20 a.m.
