Health update:

Lower back is feeling better. I still have the occasional minor twinge that waylaid'd me for days ago on the morning of leaving San Rocque.

I've been taking heavier doses of ibuprofen to knock any selling down. I've been using my poles to walk around sight seeing.

Rest, rest, rest.

Tomorrow morning the goal is to hike six miles only and use a backpack service to transport my bag.

If that is successful, then I will go for twelve miles, still using a backpack service, the following day to get to Avila.

I have already scheduled a rest day there anyway, so that should help me to finish this year.

I still have six days and 120 km approx ( 70 miles ) of hiking after Avila.

Campo de San Francisco

Devin and I started the morning with a walk around Campo de San Francisco. It's a beautiful Park just outside the old part of Oviedo. Lots of people were out and about walking with others, with their families and/or with their dogs.

It was a relaxing park to sit and have an agua con gas y limon.

The weather was great. Cool and finally not so humid.

The frog fountain

Deb was brave enough to get on for a ride. I was not

I was willing to sit down there.

Cultural context story. I had earlier asked a man for directions to one of the sculptures in the park. He explained that it was near the ducks and then turn left. I assumed because the park is full of sculptures that the ducks were also sculptures. However, you can see, that the ducks are in fact alive.

Mafalda is allegedly the most famous photo shoot in the park. I don't know if it's true or not, but we certainly participated in the count.

Just a lazy afternoon walk around Oviedo

Having an afternoon Cafe Con leche in Plaza Alfonso XII in the shadow of the Cathedral of San Salvador

Oviedo local specialties

Sidra - a local cider. You can't order a glass. You can only order the entire bottle. I drank 2/3 and then had quite the buzz.

Cachopa - Think Astorian Cordon bleu

This is how the waiters pour Sidra

A typical order of capocho actually feeds four or five people, but there were only two of us.

Carbayón is a local, very sweet pasty treat.

Late night walk

*** It's around 9:30 p.m. and it is still bright out.

Gascona restaurant district
