On The Road

9:30 a.m. finally woke up after 10 hours of solid sleep. Could I have been that tired? Exhausted? 

12:15 p.m. On the bus to Bilbao. It is fun seeing all these towns that we hiked through. Another plus, the bus is crossing the valley spanning bridges that we actually walked under. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of feet above, the bridge spans looked impressive. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of feet below, the valleys are beautiful. 

7:40 p.m. Arrived Bilboa after a very boring 7-hour 30 bus ride. And as soon as we step out of the bus station, it is the first bit of rain we have seen since we arrived here 4 weeks ago. It is a torrential downpour. 

Random Thought of the Day

It is stunning to see the countryside through which we hiked from the window of a bus, traveling at 60 mph.

The bus just "flies" over the mountains, over bridges hundreds of feet in the air or thru tunnels carved from solid rock. 

It seems so effortless while Deb and Mary and I sweated and grunted and huffed and puffed over them with our backpacks and poles.

A.m.  Found a coffee shop while near the Guggenheim.  Then took off again crossing over to the east side of the Ria Bilbao.  Lots of shade as we were walking, which was good as in the sun it was hot. Two Weeks To Go

Visited the physical therapist (Alex) yesterday, and she again strongly suggested that I give up pickleball with the Camino departure date so close. This time I listened, espeially because she gave me something else that I could do in the interim that would both help the hamstring slowly continue to heal, as well as replace the activity level of pickleball. So I am very measuredly adding jogging back to the routine.  It is more walking than jogging, but if it helps me heal, then that is a good thing. Training My Baltour backpack feels good. Packed everything well last night, so that when the alarm went off, I was able to jump out of bed, grab my backpack and head out to the community area without disturbing anyone else.  Waiting on the taxi in Portugalete to return us to Ontón and then we start walking. 9:10 a.m. Just finished a 1.25 mile 10% upgrade climb in just over an hour.
